Terms of Service
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) form an agreement between you and the operator of FinPair (“FinPair”, “we”, “us”). By installing or using FinPair you accept these Terms. If you do not accept them, do not use the app.
1. The service
FinPair is an Android application that lets small groups — primarily couples — record shared expenses, splits, settlements, budgets, goals, and recurring payment plans. The service is provided as is and may change over time.
2. Your account
- You must be at least 16 years old to create an account.
- You provide accurate information at registration and keep it up to date.
- You are responsible for the security of your account credentials and for actions taken under your account.
- You may use email and password, or Google Sign-In, to authenticate.
3. Spaces and shared content
A “Space” is a group of one or more users who share financial records inside FinPair. When you invite another user into a Space, they will be able to see records you create with the visibility setting “shared total” or “shared detailed”, in line with that record's setting. Records you mark as “private” remain visible only to you.
When you leave a Space or delete your account, your outstanding debts inside Spaces shared with other members may be automatically marked as “forgiven on leave” so the remaining members can close their books. Your authored content may be retained pseudonymously in the Space's history where necessary for the remaining members to operate the Space.
4. Your content and license to operate
You retain ownership of the financial records, photos, and chat messages you create in FinPair (“Your Content”). You grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, store, transmit, and display Your Content solely as necessary to operate FinPair and provide the service to you and to the other members of your Spaces. This license terminates when you delete the relevant content or your account, subject to the retention windows described in our Privacy Policy.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- upload content that is unlawful, harmful, harassing, defamatory, fraudulent, or that infringes the rights of others;
- use FinPair to facilitate or document illegal payments, money laundering, terrorism financing, sanctions evasion, or any other unlawful activity;
- attempt to access another user's account, Space, or data without authorization;
- circumvent or interfere with security, abuse-protection, or rate-limiting measures;
- reverse-engineer, decompile, or extract source from the app, except to the extent that this restriction is prohibited by applicable law;
- resell, sublicense, or commercially exploit the app or its content without our prior written consent.
6. Reporting issues with other users' content
If you encounter chat content from another user that violates these Terms, contact abuse@finpair.app with the Space identifier and the date of the message. We will review the report and take appropriate action, which may include removing content, restricting features, or terminating an account.
7. Money in FinPair
Amounts you enter are your records of what you and other members of your Space owe each other. They are not money held by FinPair. Exchange rates shown in the app are informational and may be missing or stale at times; FinPair will indicate when exchange-rate data is unavailable. You are responsible for the accuracy of the records you create. FinPair does not verify, certify, or guarantee any record or balance.
8. Push notifications
FinPair sends push notifications about events in your Spaces and reminders for recurring payments. You can disable notifications in the app settings or in your device's system settings.
9. Service availability
We aim to keep FinPair available, but we do not commit to a specific uptime. The service may be unavailable during maintenance windows or because of factors outside our control (network outages, platform-provider incidents). We will make reasonable efforts to restore the service.
10. Disclaimer of warranties
FinPair is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy of records, or non-infringement, except to the extent that such warranties cannot be excluded under applicable law. You are responsible for verifying any financial calculation before acting on it.
11. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, FinPair, the Operator, and our sub-processors are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, data, goodwill, or business opportunity, arising out of or in connection with your use of FinPair. Our total cumulative liability for any claim arising out of or in connection with these Terms is limited to one hundred euros (€100).
Disputes about real-world money between you and another user are between those users. We do not adjudicate, settle, or facilitate such disputes.
12. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless the Operator from claims, damages, liabilities, and reasonable costs (including legal fees) arising from (i) Your Content, (ii) your violation of these Terms, (iii) your violation of any rights of a third party. We will notify you of any such claim and you may participate in the defense.
13. Termination
You may stop using FinPair at any time. You may delete your account in Settings → Delete account in the app or by writing to delete@finpair.app. We may suspend or terminate your access to FinPair if you materially breach these Terms or if continued use would create a legal or security risk; we will give you notice where reasonably possible.
14. Changes to the Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify active users in the app at next launch and update the “Last updated” date at the top. Continued use after the change means you accept the updated Terms. If you do not accept them, stop using the app and, if you wish, delete your account.
15. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the law of the country where the Operator is resident, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. If you are a consumer, this clause does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory consumer-law provisions of the country where you are habitually resident. Disputes that cannot be resolved informally will be brought before the competent courts of the Operator's country of residence; if you are a consumer in the EU, you may also bring proceedings before the competent courts of your country of habitual residence. EU consumers may use the European Online Dispute Resolution platform at ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr.
